Subsocial Web App Maintenance

Subsocial Web App Maintenance

Tomorrow, August 31st, at 10AM UTC, Subsocial’s web app will undergo maintenance as we transition from our solochain to our parachain. During this time, the app will be in read-only mode, and users will not be able to interact with it.

This maintenance is necessary for us to migrate user data from the solochain to the parachain. First, the team will disable social extrinsics on the solochain, forcing the web app into read-only mode. Next, they will begin migrating all data from the solochain to Subsocial’s parachain on Kusama. Once the success of the data migration has been verified, social extrinsics will be enabled on the parachain. Barring any unforeseen problems, the web app will then be transitioned to the parachain, and resume working as normal. Please note that due to longer block times on the parachain, you may notice some actions taking longer than before.

These steps will complete the process that began with the pallet migration a few weeks ago. Fully transitioning to our parachain will enable us to take full advantage of the unique selling points offered by parachains, such as inclusion in the XCM network present on Kusama, allowing us to collaborate with other teams to build awesome new features. We appreciate your patience while we complete this migration.

About Subsocial

Subsocial is a social networking platform built to support the social networks of the future. These apps will feature built-in monetization methods and censorship resistance, where users will own their content and social graphs. Built with Substrate pallets, Subsocial is a one-of-a-kind in the Dotsama ecosystem, and designed specifically for social interactions. These interactions do not have to be specifically social networking, as Subsocial can support apps like YouTube, Shopify, or even Airbnb.
