Introducing Stickies (a RMRK2.0 project)

Hello. I am a Stickie. I’d love if I could be your friend. I promise I have much to offer!

Why should you befriend a Stickie? Well, I’m simple, cool, and kind of amazing.

You see, somewhere out there are eyes that fit me just right. Somewhere there is a hat that looks perfect. Somewhere there is a lovely pair of shoes just waiting for my Stickie feet.

Somewhere there is a place you can take me. Somewhere there is a smile, a frown, an “oh-no-you-didn’t”.

Somewhere there are shirts and pants (or skirts!) for me. Somewhere there’s a hat I can don. Somewhere there’s a cup of coffee I can sip, an ice cream cone I can lick, a cell phone I can call you on.

Somewhere there’s a pet I can care for. Somewhere there are friends I can make, many friends we can make!

Somewhere there are things I have not yet imagined, but someone will imagine, that I can hold, or wear, or care for. Maybe that someone is you!

Somewhere, someone will be my friend. Will you accept?

Your friend (I hope), -Stickie

P.S. My very-first-friend-in-the-whole-world Brandon wanted to share some details about my birth. I hope you don’t mind.

Hello. Brandon here. Thanks for letting me tell your story from a different angle, kind Stickie.

Stickies are an implementation of the RMRK2.0 standard on Singular2.0. There is a simple fixed base part, which is a stick figure. Surrounding the base part are more than 50 slot parts, equippable by the many items in the Stickie Genesis item collection. These slots include (but are not limited to) eyes, face, hat, pants, background, left hand and right hand (so you can equip different hands in different slots). There’s a pet slot, a right-hand slot, a left-hand slot, etc, etc, etc. There’s even a pet slot.

Of note, there are numerous slots littered at the various layers that are reserved for unexpected developments—I am certain I did not think of everything.

One might ask—why? Why create Stickies? The answer is that I have spent months in heavy exposure to the RMRK2.0 standard, working on a hackathon entry in November, then working to help with the development of the Substrate pallets. Despite these months of exposure, still I found the standard…hard. I would get dizzy, lost in uncertainty about how exactly NFTs relate to Collections relate to Resources relate to Bases, what is fixed vs slot, what issuer matters? It’s a beautiful standard, as one can see with Kanaria. But it’s technically…tough.

When things get tough, get simple. Make it simple, make it cool. Thus, Stickies. I can attest to their simplicity, though I’m not sure how cool they are. But I think they demonstrate some of the absolute awesomeness that RMRK brings to the NFT/crypto world, in a way that a five-year-old can understand and get excited about. And if there’s one thing we all share, it is the experience of once being a five-year-old, and the wonder that it brings.

One of the hardest details I find is now. The specifics. How many Stickies? How many batches? How should I distribute them? How many red shoes? How many cups of coffee? I am going to make some guesses, I’m launching with 10 first (real live testing) to play with friends, then probably 100 by the time this is posted. 3000 max sounds good. I’ll likely give plenty away, sell many very very cheap (with enormous gratitude for the royalty feature of Singular 2–is 10% a fair royalty, I hope?).

There are ideas I have too. Just today I thought of a ticket feature, where you send a ticket in exchange for a random item*.

I want it to be fun. Sure if it pays for my daughter’s college that would be lovely, but I want it mostly to tickle the brain…get your ideas flowing.

The collection of items is small but it is enough to launch, I believe. And I will continue to create items, but I’m ready for some (hopeful) validation that launch might bring. I also have a couple grander ideas for the future, which I won’t share here. Though maybe if you’ve read carefully, you’ll realize I’ve hinted at them here.

Congrats and much thanks—you’ve read to the end. Follow me on Twitter @blocksbrandon, or the Stickies account @StickiesRMRK. Also, to be clear, this is not officially endorsed by RMRK. I don’t think I’ve implied such a thing but do want to disclose that outright.

Finally, introducing the motto of my Stickie friends and family—Get Stuck! -Brandon

  • Singular 2 (https://singular.app) was just released ~a week ago, and there are a few features that are being worked out (nested royalties) that create some immediate technical challenges that will be solved soon, but if you want a workaround immediately, I made a YouTube video demonstrating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7Rl5bkxIik
